Many young people are growing up without a positive, supportive adult relationship in their life. One way to solve this increasing problem is to provide these children with a mentor.
We Make It Easy to Be a Mentor
Mentors prepare students to have successful careers and personal lives through the development of character values, goal setting, and strategic plans. Students find their mentoring experience invaluable. Mentoring provides students with an opportunity to learn about other professions, and to meet someone outside the classroom who can provide guidance, share personal and professional experiences, and serve as a role model. Winning Futures makes it easy because we provide mentors with a structured setting and topic-based activities to complete with their mentees.
Becoming A Mentor
If you are motivated to help youth in your community and are willing to make the commitment, you can mentor! As a mentor, you can select which school you want to work with, and you will be asked to:
- Attend a three-hour training session.
- Participate in an interview and background check.
- Work with two or three students on a scheduled weekday for one hour during school hours.
- Help students identify their character values, set goals, explore careers, build employability skills, and prepare for the future through fun activities.
Our programs are conducted in the classroom and program staff are always on site to provide support. School-based mentoring programs serve youth from Detroit, Oak Park, Pontiac, Sterling Heights, and Warren. We can also link you with other mentoring programs.
